Make progress every single day

Even if it’s not what you expected, even if you didn’t hit your target, even if you’re way behind your deadline, even if you had to tear apart days of your own work because you realized that it just wasn’t working out, as I had to do today. Just keep making progress.

Make progress. Make good progress, inexorably progress, a little more progress every single day, progress towards that grand goal you have in mind. Work wise and work hard and you’ll get there. Just make sure you keep working.

Another day has passed, and it looks even less likely that I’ll make it in time for my latest challenge. I will still try with every ounce of my strength, but even if I don’t make it, that’s okay. I’m happy that I figured out what I was doing wrong (I hope, I hope), and I think my story will be stronger for it.

So this day wasn’t a waste. I didn’t get to do much with the scenes I wanted to focus on, but that’s okay. I made progress – good progress, helpful progress, important progress – and that’s what really matters. So it’s okay.

  1. I’ve been in a slump after my graduation (basking in the glory of my previous success didn’t help at all). I’ve re-started with my project only a month ago and what seemed to be a long shot before became more and more achievable, despite the slow progress.
All progress is good progress, and when you love what you’re doing (bonus!), it becomes effortless and you can’t wait to keep going forward.
So from one writer to another, thank you for sharing this with us. =)

    • No problem! And thank you for taking the time to comment. My motivation was dragging a bit today, and then you reminded me that I do all this because it’s fun (I forget sometimes!), and now I’m all ginned up to go. Back to it, huzzah!
